PDSU, Pro-T activists try to lay siege to Minister’s house

Hyderabad, February 9: Pro-Telangana activists, under the leadership of People’s Democratic Students Union (PDSU) on Tuesday tried to lay siege to the residence of Handlooms and Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao residence at Ramnagar in the city demanding the introduction of Telangana Bill in the Budget Session of Parliament.
The PDSU activists, raising `Jai Telangana’ slogans demanded the Minister submit his resignation to his post and extend solidarity to their demand of a separate Telangana state. They also demanded that Dr Shankar Rao extend support to their demand of introducing a Bill in Parliament on the separate statehood issue.
The activists further threatened to stage agitations before the residences of all Telangana leaders and mount pressure on the United Progressive Alliance Government until it introduces Telangana Bill.
The protestors demanded that elected representatives submit their resignations from their posts in order to mount pressure on the government.
They said they would intensify their agitation and stall the Assembly Budget Session. The Budget session is scheduled to start on February 17.
The activists were protesting against the Centre for being noncommittal about introducing the T Bill in Parliament.
When the members tried to barge into the Minister’s residence, the police took them into custody and shifted them to nearby police station.
