ONGOLE: The Progressive Democratic Students Union on Thursday threatened to intensify its agitation if the State Government did not keep its commitment to release scholarship and fee reimbursement to over 30 lakh students belonging to SC/ST/BC/EBCs by the month-end.
Leading a demonstration in front of the district Collectorate after holding a students meeting at the ''Ambedkar Bhavan'', PDSU State President A Ashok Kumar alleged that the Congress Government was not alloting funds required for students from weaker sections to pursue education in its more than rs 1,00,000 crore budget.
''We will have no option but to launch a protracted struggle if funds are not released before August 31'', he said.
The Government had allotted only Rs 2,000 crore in the budget when the demand was three times more, he said, alleging
that it was trying to eliminate ''eligible'' students on one pretext or the other.
The Government had to still clear scholarship arrears to over 25 lakh students in the last two years, he claimed.
